At Artnroll Games, the idea behind CLASH: Heroes of Feralia Terra started from a simple creative impulse, the desire to build a world that feels primal, dangerous, and alive. The team set out to explore what happens when savage tribal myth collides with cosmic science fiction, creating a setting where instinct, survival, and ancient forces shape every encounter.
CLASH: Heroes of Feralia Terra is not just our debut Action RPG, it’s a world we’ve been carrying in our heads for years. It’s born from our obsession with the raw, unapologetic intensity of 80s and 90s sci-fi and dark fantasy. Films like The Predator, Alien, the primal energy of Conan the Barbarian, and the savage pulp imagination of Robert E. Howard and favorite action game titles such as (God of War, Gears Of War, Space Marine 2, Remnant, DMC), shaped our creative DNA.
CLASH is our attempt to channel that feeling into something Epic, metal, brutal, atmospheric, and feral, but grounded in deliberate gameplay design.
“We’re aiming for a visceral action experience where players fight as powerful beast warriors against cosmic abominations and corrupted beings, while under a constant danger uncovering the deeper lore of a universe that stretches beyond their stars. A savage dance of steel, bullets, and cosmic ruin.”
— Alex Papadopoulos, Founder & Art & Creative Director.
Feralia Terra, the world of CLASH, is built on the remnants of an ancient alien civilization. Tribal clans have risen from its ruins, drawing power from ancestral totems while a spreading cosmic corruption reshapes the land and everything living within it.
From a design standpoint, we didn’t want the setting to be just a backdrop. The world needed to feel systemic and reactive, as if it existed before the player arrived and will continue evolving after.
Combat is the heart of the experience, and we approached it with a simple question: how do we make the player feel like a predator, not just a fighter?
The result is a hybrid system where melee, ranged weapons, and tactical tools flow together as a single language. The key differentiator is the lineage system. Each hero is bound to an animal spirit, and that choice fundamentally reshapes gameplay rhythm.
A Bear lineage leans into resilience and physical control of space. A Wolf lineage encourages mobility, timing, and dominance in darkness to give an example. These are not cosmetic variations, they influence traversal, combat tempo, and even how you approach encounters depending on time of day and environmental conditions.
The dynamic day-night and weather systems exist for that exact reason. We wanted the world’s state to matter mechanically. Night isn’t just darker, it shifts power balances. Harsh climates are not visual effects, they amplify or suppress certain strengths.
Exploration follows the same philosophy. We want players to feel like they are uncovering layers of a lost civilization while surviving in a hostile dimensions. Crafting and scavenging aren’t isolated systems, they are survival responses to a world shaped by corruption and forgotten alien technology. Every ruin, creature, and biome is part of a larger narrative that stretches beyond what is immediately visible.
Technically, CLASH is powered by Unreal Engine 5, and for a small indie team, that has been truly transformative. The arsenal of tools Unreal Engine offers today provides developers with an incredibly powerful environment to bring ambitious ideas to life and allows to our team to focus on crafting gameplay, atmosphere, and storytelling while maintaining a high level of visual fidelity throughout the experience.
“Based in Athens, Greece, Artnroll Games is an ambitious indie studio built on a hybrid-remote foundation of six high-caliber developers. Working at this scale maximizes our collective talent. We eliminate the noise so that pure creative skill and technical expertise directly shape our games.
The studio is led by Alex Papadopoulos, Founder Art & Creative Director, a veteran generalist artist with a background in multimedia design, visual storytelling, narrative development, sound engineering and music production. His multidisciplinary experience shapes CLASH: Heroes of Feralia Terra at every level from character and creature design to UI/UX, atmospheric soundscapes, and the deeper lore of Feralia Terra. In CLASH, artistic vision is not treated as a separate layer placed on top of gameplay, it is the driving force behind how the world looks, feels, and plays.”
CLASH: Heroes of Feralia Terra is still in active development, and the team at Artnroll Games continues to refine its systems, worldbuilding, and combat experience with every iteration. As development progresses, the studio is preparing upcoming playtests that will allow players to step into Feralia Terra and experience the feral combat and evolving world firsthand. Those interested in following the journey, learning more about the universe of CLASH, or participating in future playtests can stay connected through the game’s Steam page, social media channels and community spaces, where the team regularly shares development updates, behind-the-scenes insights, and opportunities to join the growing community around the project.
